Retired Jerseys

#5 Andy Martin
Andy Martin After learning his trade north of the border in Scotland, blue liner Andy Martin switched to the South aged just 20 in 1989 and announced his arrival at the Medway Bears with a goal on his debut against Basingstoke in the British Hockey League (BHL). Over the next three years he would ice for Medway, Romford and Peterborough before spending four consecutive years with the Bears between 1993 and 1997. After a year out of the game Martin then appeared for the newly created Invicta Dynamos (the replacement for the Medway team) from 1998/99 and he would be involved with the Kent club at various levels through to his retirement in 2006.

Andy Martin was an excellent defenceman with a reputation for doing whatever it took to secure the points for his team. Having hung up his skates he continued to play a role in the sport as he coached at various junior levels.

In April 2009, Andy Martin tragically passed away aged just 40.

#6 Anthony Lennon
Anthony Lennon

Anthony Lennon has been a regular in Kent since joining brother Karl and first appearing for the Dynamos in the 2004/05 season having signed on a rolling contract with an opportunity to impress Head Coach Kevin Parrish.

His no nonsense approach to the game, hard hitting style and dedication to the team quickly won over the club’s supporters and the blue liner was offered a place on the roster every year since. Having signed up for his eighth term with the Dynamos at the beginning of 2011/12, Lennon went on to suffer a difficult campaign after seeing his playing time halted as he picked up a fractured shoulder in just his sixth outing of the competition. However, after a prolonged spell on the sidelines, the skater would eventually finish the season having iced 22 times. His determination to get back on the ice, coupled with his presence at all training sessions and games during his period of injury, then saw him awarded the ‘Clubman of the Year’ Award come the end of season presentation evening in April 2012.

Due to new career commitments ‘Tony’ regretfully decided that he had to take a step back from the Dynamos as he could not be as fully committed to the team as he would want to be.

#12 Karl Lennon
Karl Lennon Karl Lennon first appeared for the Invicta Dynamos in the 2003/04 season after making the step up from the Mustangs. Born in nearby Chatham, local lad Lennon only ever had eyes for his hometown club and he spent eight consecutive years lacing up his skates to represent the Dynamos until his eventual retirement at the end of the 2010/11 campaign. In his final two years at the club Lennon wore the 'C' and he captained the side to the ENIHL Southern Championship in 2009/10.

Forward Karl Lennon was best known for his exceptional work ethic that saw him cover every patch of the ice from puck drop to final buzzer. The grinder's most prolific year with the team came in 2008/09 when his 15 goals and 14 assists helped the club scoop both the ENIHL Southern and National titles.

Away from the ice Karl Lennon was also involved behind the scenes in Gillingham as he designed many of the club's strips.

#23 Phil Chard
Phil Chard After stints with Oxford, Streatham, Basingstoke, Chelmsford and Peterborough, defenceman Phil Chard switched to Kent to become one of the founding players of the Invicta Dynamos in 1997/98. He would find himself at home in Gillingham and went on to spend seven consecutive years icing for the club before eventually hanging up his skates come the close of 2003/04. However, when injuries left the Dynamos with a defensive crisis in 2005/06 the stalwart returned for seven more games taking his total appearances for the team to over 300.

Phil Chard was known in Kent as an excellent all-round defenceman that had a keen eye for a breakout pass and a lethal shot from the blue line. To date he is still the highest scoring defenceman in the club's history.

Chard was also renowned for his leadership qualities and he captained the side before later moving on to a coaching role with the team.
